Why pitcher props became my main lane

I shifted maybe 60% of my MLB volume into pitcher props somewhere around 2022. Modern starting-pitcher pitch limits sit roughly between 95 and 110 pitches per outing for fully built-up starters, with rare exceptions for genuine workhorses. One additional note: managers vary considerably in their pull-tendency profiles. Some run their starters to the edge; others pull at the first sign of trouble. Tracking the pull tendency of each manager – easily done with publicly available data – is one of the simplest research habits that improves outs-recorded prop accuracy.

The opener and bullpen-game effect

The opener – a reliever who pitches the first inning before yielding to a “bulk” pitcher who works the next four to six – has changed how some clubs structure their rotations. From a betting perspective, an opener game is a different animal entirely. The “starting pitcher” prop lines on bulk-arm appearances are listed but typically with much lower thresholds (often eight to twelve outs) and shorter prices.

What I look for in opener-game props: whether the listed bulk pitcher has a history of pitching efficiently in those slots, and whether the opposing lineup has handedness vulnerabilities the bulk pitcher can exploit. A right-handed bulk pitcher facing a lineup stacked with right-handed bats often gets through five innings cleanly because the platoon disadvantage favours him. The fully bullpen-game scenario – no traditional starter at all, multiple relievers in succession – is where I generally pass on pitcher props entirely. The variance is too wide and the lines reflect that with steeper juice.

Is the over on strikeouts juiced higher than the under at most UK books?
Yes, in most cases. Public money flows toward overs on strikeout props because punters back the pitchers they like to perform well, and 'performing well' reads as more strikeouts. Books price that demand by tightening the over and offering relatively cleaner odds on the under.
